I tried to start a blog when Nick was first born but between working on my phD in Finance and caring for Nick, I did not do a great job of keep the blog updated. I have imported the blog posts from Nick's blog and am recommitted to keeping track of our family's stories. I will also be adding memories from Nick's first year to record all of the fun and exciting things this past year has entailed for team Upton.

The Daisy Affair
The other day I took the kids to Target for Nick to pick out his big boy chair for the dinner table so that we could transition Brennan into Nick's high chair. I had made a big fuss about the whole event how it was an adventure and we would get a big boy chair and a big boy toy, etc. After we picked out a chair that he was very excited about we went down the toy aisle to pick out his toy! First he sees a push Daisy that would match his Mickey, Nemo, and Pluto friends. He decides he has to have her. As I am swirling the cart around to make a quick exit off the toy aisle, Nick sees a Dinosaur driving a car ( a wheelie) and decides he has to have this toy, I insist he can only have one and as you can imagine, chaos ensues for over 5 minutes of picking on and then screaming as we put the other one back etc. Finally he says, OK mommy I want the saurus (dinosaur car) as I am putting Daisy back on the shelf Nick yells "WAIT MOMMY!" I turn around and he says "Bennan's Daisy! Bennan wants Daisy" needless to say Brennan got Daisy, despite the fact that Nick holds he most of the time, he calls he Bennan's Daisy. This was just the first time of many I will be had by my two children working as a team :)
Toddler Cuteness!
I think every now and then between being sassed, yelled at, or threatened with violence by your toddler it is important to remember some of the precious things that you love about this otherwise very trying time. With that said, I am dedicating this post to things I love about Nick right now!
Somewhere, probably mothers day out, Nick has picked up on "hining" (a.k.a. hiding). He really likes the concept! Sometime he is "hining" from me under the covers in the morning when I go in to get him up, other times he hides stuffed animals around the house, puts hims nose in a corner in the wall, counts to ten and screams " RAWHSANDHS NOT I COME" and going around to each animal squealing with delight as he tags each one it or exclaims he found it, finally sometimes Nick "hines" things as a prank, like Daddy's shoes. It is really stinking cute!
Nick looooves a phone about as much as anything in the whole world! Ever since he was little, he has been pretending anything he could get his hands on was a phone and attempting to use any actual phone he could find. This was fine and dandy until he began being able to find my phone (I am bad to leave it lying around) and actually manage to call people without my knowledge. He typically can only call my last contact that I dialed or received a call from so Deenie and Jeremy get the bulk of his calls, but sometimes they are on the phone with him for several minutes before he can be persuaded to "Take the phone to Mommy"
Speaking of things Nick really loves....the other day I couldn't find Nick when it was time to go to school, he usually runs around and plays in his room or the living room. While I was changing B and getting ready to load us up I realized I couldn't hear Nick. I started looking for him and even calling his name. I also realized I couldn't find Nora, who was staying with us, or Grady. I went outside thinking maybe he had opened the door, let them out, gone out there and shut the door somehow without me hearing him. I looked in the backyard and still couldn't find them. I was about to get panicked when I hear Nora scratching at the pantry door. Nick, Nora, and Grady were hanging out in there devouring animal cookies, granola bars, crackers, goldfish, and who knows what! He loves the pantry, I may have to put a childproof handle on the door, but sometimes it is convenient for him to grab his snacks, plus Grady says to leave him with access ;)
