As Nick's vocabulary expands I have realized it is the opportune time to try and shape him into a little gentleman or at the very least not into a brat. ;) Since Nick attends Mother's Day Out, he came home about a month ago and had picked up the "mine" and "no" phenomenon. For those of you without kids or whose kids have not reached this point, this phenomenon is when the only two words they seem to use are "NO" and "MINE" usually accompanied with kicking and screaming. The "Mine" phenomenon was the one I really couldn't handle. So Jeremy and I took it head on, any time Nick said mine we told him it was a bad word and that whatever it was is "ours." A few days later I went to pick Nick up from MDO and the teachers told me a little girl took his toy he was playing with and he screamed at her "BAD...OURS!" I think mentally he still meant "MINE" but at least he was "trying" to be nice. Fortunately this phenomenon seems to have passed.
My project with Nick right now is to say please anytime he wants something and Thank You afterwards since these are both words he knows. He has gotten really good at it and people always think it is so cute, it eggs him on. This past Monday Nick had a bad fall at school and cut his forehead pretty badly, right in time for his Birthday, just like his first shiner last year. Jeremy picked him up and the cut didn't look that bad. Later that night, he bled through 2 band aids so I decided to take him to the doctor the next morning. Fortunately it wasn't anything to worry about and we just need to keep neosporin on it and it covered for a week. When Dr. Amy got ready to put the new band aid on she got close and he said PEESE (please) and when she was finished he followed up with TANK TO (thank you)...maybe I have taken this a little to far
I tried to start a blog when Nick was first born but between working on my phD in Finance and caring for Nick, I did not do a great job of keep the blog updated. I have imported the blog posts from Nick's blog and am recommitted to keeping track of our family's stories. I will also be adding memories from Nick's first year to record all of the fun and exciting things this past year has entailed for team Upton.

Brennan's first two months!
Our little family has had the best time with Brennan over the past two months. She has already celebrated two holidays and a wedding with us. Halloween was spent at the Gulas's house. While Brennan slept the whole time, she did get a chance to sport her tutu made by her Deenie and Nick had an amazing time! He was a dinosaur for Halloween and had the best time telling everyone in attendance what a dinosaur says...ROAR! Nick asl got to trick or treat for the first time.
Here is Nick in his Halloween costume:
He has also learned to say "cheese" for pictures.
We also went down to Camden for my cousin Sarah's wedding. Brennan was a doll baby and let everyone pass her around at both the wedding and Gaines Ridge for breakfast the next morning. Nick also had a great time playing with and chasing all his cousins. If Eliot got out of sight, Nick immediately said "where Yeliot?" His cousin younger cousin Sarah, not the bride, did a great job of watching him while he explored. His only melt down came when he had to be removed from the dance floor for the Bride and Groom's first dance. What can I say he likes to be the center of attention. Here is a picture of the cousins the Sunday after the wedding.
Brennan has been a very busy baby she gained two pounds from her birth weight when we went to her one month check up and had grown over an inch in length. She has also celebrated her first Thanksgiving. Actually two Thanksgivings. She went to Decatur Thanksgiving morning and to Deenie's house Thanksgiving night. She and Nick had a wonderful time at both places. What a great start the holiday season!!!
